Policy Council

You may have heard staff talk about the Policy Council and wondered what is it? It is part of the magic of Head Start programs because it is a required governing body that is made up of a majority of parents. Each year interested parents put their name forward to serve. What is involved in service?  Policy Council members attend a monthly one hour meeting ten times a year where we go over the operating of the program and ask for approval of various items as required by Head Start.

You have the opportunity to have input into key hiring decisions, our grant renewal application to the feds, while learning some of the specifics about the operations and outcomes from our programs. That means parents get input into the program their child benefits from; it is also a great way to get to know other parents and it is something you can list on a job application or resume!
