At Richland First Steps, we are always learning so we can better support the families we serve. Recently, our team attended Autism Connect 2026, a meaningful event that brought together families, professionals, and members of the autism community to foster connection, learning, and support. The event created a collaborative space where attendees could engage with a wide range of vendors, organizations, and sponsors dedicated to supporting individuals living with autism and their families.
Throughout the conference, participants had the opportunity to explore valuable resources, build relationships, and gain insights from experts across multiple disciplines. The sense of community and shared purpose was evident in every interaction.
The Richland First Steps team attended three particularly impactful sessions:
- Helping Caregivers Support Emotion Regulation in Toddlers Who May Have Autism highlighted practical strategies caregivers can use to better understand and support young children’s emotional development.
- A Therapeutic Melody: Music Therapy for Autism demonstrated how music can be used as a powerful therapeutic tool to enhance communication, emotional expression, and engagement.
- What You Can’t See Hurts Us: Assessing the Mental Load of Autistic Learners shed light on the often-overlooked cognitive and emotional demands placed on autistic individuals, emphasizing the importance of awareness and supportive practices.
Each session provided meaningful, actionable information that can be shared with others to improve understanding and support within the autism community. Overall, Autism Connect 2026 was an inspiring and informative experience that reinforced the importance of connection, education, and advocacy.
