As a parent, you are the most important person in your child’s life. It is crucial that you spend quality time with your baby so that he/she:

  • Develops feelings of positive self-worth
  • Feels loved and valued
  • Models your behavior and values
  • Develops cognitive, physical, and language skills
  • Learns to get along with people

Things you can do with infants:

  • Talk to your child as you go through your day. Vary your tone and volume. “Baby talk” is not necessary
  • Sing to your baby
  • Make puppets from old socks or gloves and use them with your child
  • Have fun together at bath time
  • Take walks with your baby and talk about what you see
  • Let your baby lie on and touch different fabrics and textures
  • Look at brightly colored books together.
  • Play peek-a-boo and patty cake.

Appropriate toys for infants:

  • Rattles
  • Unbreakable mirrors
  • Balls
  • Stacking and nesting toys
  • Squeaky toys
  • Cloth books
