In signing the proclamation, the governor said she was encouraging “all South Carolinians to work together to support early learning for all children” and to “recognize early childhood professionals for their contributions to children and families in the Palmetto State.”

South Carolina Governor Nikki Haley has issued a proclamation declaring April 10-16, 2016 to be the Week of the Young Child throughout South Carolina, citing the impact of “comprehensive community-based school readiness programs” that lead to lasting improvements in children’s educational outcomes.

The governor has shown her support for early education throughout her tenure, promoting investment in First Steps, 4-year-old kindergarten, and early literacy.
